If I were to choose an airport terminal to live in, I’d pick Singapore Changi. It’s massive, with an astounding amount of greenery and numerous gardens (butterfly, cactus, lily pad, and more), and the world’s tallest indoor waterfall (technically, this isn’t in the airport proper and requires clearing immigration, so not accessible for theoretical terminal living, minor details). It’s walkable for miles, has a 24-hour free movie theater with multiple screens, and all the shopping and food one could want. However, for now, 9 hours was plenty, and I started my day there, getting on my next flight at 2 a.m. this morning to Seoul Incheon airport. From there, I took (luckily the correct) train to Seoul Gimpo airport for a few hours layover. Gimpo was interesting; my carry-on had to go through the scanner about 6 times, and it was at that exact time I started having one of those terrible low blood sugar moments and was wishing I had packed some trusty Sour Patch Kids (although, they would have been in my bag sooooo….); awkward timing to start sweating profusely. While waiting in the lounge after successfully clearing security, there was an intense argument (the words I could not understand, but tone and body language were unmistakable) between two gentlemen. A short one-hour flight and a consecutive one-hour taxi ride later, I arrived at my Airbnb on Jeju Island, and it was all worth it.
Since leaving Seattle early Sunday morning, I've only managed about 6 hours of sleep. It's now Tuesday night in South Korea, and I've decided that tomorrow morning I'll hike the tallest mountain in the country. It’s right there, why not?! There are two trails to the summit, and while making my park reservation I chose the shorter but more difficult route. Just a little 13-mile trek. 😳
